Tales of the Damned: An Anthology of Fortean Horror

Tales of the DamnedTales of the Damned is a brand new anthology of Fortean-themed horror fiction, edited by the CFZ’s zoological director, Richard Freeman. At 354 pages it contains 25 stories by 21 different authors, including such well-known Fortean names as Neil Arnold, Andy Roberts, Lars Thomas and Dr Karl Shuker. As Richard put it, “Who better to pen a collection of weird tales than those who hunt monsters, search for ghosts and study anomalous phenomena? For the first time ever here is an anthology of bizarre horror written by those who actively seek the strange, occult and disturbing. Herein lie what Charles Fort, the first eclectic paranormal researcher, would truly describe as a parade of the damned.”

Tales of the Damned has just been published in trade paperback format, with a Kindle version scheduled for next month. To get your copy, click on the appropriate link below (or search your local Amazon store if you are outside the UK or US):

song_of_panneThe Song of Panne (Being Mainly about Elephants) is the surreal new novel from the CFZ’s director Jonathan Downes.

If High Fantasy involves the creation of an imaginary new land full of mermaids, orcs and unicorns, this is very Low Fantasy. There are Gods and Demons but most of the action takes place in a disused Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Barnstaple…

Out now! The Song of Panne

jon-downes-song-of-panneAs you can see from the photo, CFZ director Jonathan Downes has a new book out! The latest entry in our Fortean Fiction line, it is a novel called The Song of Panne (Being Mainly about Elephants):

A tired, crippled man in late middle age gets an unexpected visitor from his less then salubrious past. With him is something out of the pages of Greek mythology. The author finds himself deep in an arcane tangle of lies, half-truths and impossibilities. Against his better judgement, he has no option but to act. If this is a story, it’s a bloody good one. If this is truth then the world you know is about to change forever.

Watch this space for details of how to get a copy of The Song of Panne signed by the author. In the meantime, the book is available from Amazon UK – just click on this link: The Song of Panne (Being Mainly about Elephants).

New from Fortean Fiction: Brundannon’s Daughter

brundannons-daughterThe latest release from our popular Fortean Fiction imprint is Brundannon’s Daughter: Through the Realms of the Woodwose, Book One, by Corinna Newton Downes.

Here are some teasers from the book’s back cover blurb:

Stray into the woods and forests and you will enter into another world; a world of creatures that live by their own rules, protect their own kind with fierceness, and view all strangers who venture under the protective boughs with deep suspicion. Tread the forest floor with care, for this is also the home of the hairy man – the wildman of the woods. Is he a man? Is he a beast? Is he something in between? Whatever he is, he is spoken about by humans in hushed voices. They call him many names; the woodwose, the wudawasa, the wodwos amongst them.

The bane of a high-born daughter takes her unintentionally through such a forest on her last journey as a single woman to wed the man of her father’s choice. Imposters from another land tramp through such a forest on a mission of their own, killing everything that comes across their path. The lives of some of the creatures that dwell in this place become unavoidably entwined with both these trespassers. The lives of some will change. Some will cease completely.
